This song’s a perfect example of just how amazingly produced Off The Wall was. Every single instrument perfectly put to use, tempo rising at falling at just the right times… It’s just an incredibly well put together song.

#songoftheday: Fatboy Slim – Praise You
I know Spike Jonze just won an Oscar for screenwriting, but this video’s proof positive that he could’ve been one of the all-time greatest dance choreographers.
#songoftheday: Big Head Todd & The Monsters – Bittersweet
Sometimes you hear a song that manages to completely capture what you think of as a decade’s signature sound. “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees for the 70s, or “I Ran” by A Flock of Seagulls for the 80s, etc…
To me, Big Head Todd & The Monsters are the 90s.
#songoftheday: David Bowie – Life on Mars? (Live at Fashion Rocks)
Back in 2005, David Bowie and Arcade Fire joined forces on stage for a benefit concert. The studio version from Hunky Dory is a classic, but the extended piano intro from the Fashion Rocks show really does it for me.
If this song doesn’t make you a Bowie fan, I don’t know what will.
#songoftheday: Pete Townshend – I Am An Animal
This track comes from Pete Townshend’s first real solo album, Empty Glass.
The Who albums from this time period are a bit uneven, but Empty Glass is a truly fantastic album.
#songoftheday: Bob Seger – Night Moves
This song never fails to make me feel a thousand times more smooth than I really am.
#songoftheday: Queen Latifah – U.N.I.T.Y.
Queen Latifah proving that words are a million times more provocative than all the latex onesies, and stuck out tongues in the world.
#songoftheday: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – I’m All That
If there’s anything to be learned from this song, it’s that pretty much every new album from Will Smith is a comeback album.
This particular comeback was in the summer of 1991, following the first season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and only 2 years after their previous album. If anybody seriously wrote off Will Smith in that amount of time, I can’t even imagine how shocked they’d be to see how the next 20 years would play out.
#songoftheday: The Offspring – The Kids Aren’t Alright
Hands down my favourite song off of Americana, and probably my favourite Offspring song.
I’m already a sucker for a good intro, but when some palm muting gets tossed into the mix, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll love the song.
#songoftheday: Creed – My Sacrifice
Creed get a lot of flack, but I genuinely enjoy this song.
Like a lot of males my age, I’ll probably always associate it with the promo videos that the WWF put together in the beginning of 2002.
