“Lyrics fill in the gaps”
The little interview at the end of the video just might be my favourite part.
Back from my sister’s wedding, and this was a definite highlight.
Going forward, I’ll probably always associate this song with busting a move alongside two elderly Italian ladies.
Most of my favourite bands have a single song, or album that I think of as the definitive point where I became a lifelong fan. As far as Pearl Jam’s concerned, this is the one that “got me into” Pearl Jam.
I’d heard the odd song of theirs over the years, and always enjoyed what I’d come across, but this was the track that got me to listen through “Ten” for the first time. The release of “Backspacer” shortly after that sealed the deal.
If there’s anything to be learned from this song, it’s that pretty much every new album from Will Smith is a comeback album.
This particular comeback was in the summer of 1991, following the first season of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and only 2 years after their previous album. If anybody seriously wrote off Will Smith in that amount of time, I can’t even imagine how shocked they’d be to see how the next 20 years would play out.
