Oddly enough, I came across this gem by way of “Rump Shaker” by Wreckx-N-Effect. It turns out the lines, “I like the way you comb your hair, and I like those stylish clothes you wear” have been used in a few songs since this DeBarge hit.

#songoftheday: Ash – Kung Fu
I can’t remember all of Jackie Chan’s stunts from Rumble in the Bronx, but I do remember this song playing over the credits. Hearing it in the movie Angus, pretty much cemented it’s status as one of my favourite songs.
#songoftheday: Good Charlotte – Little Things
The rest of the world may associate this song with Good Charlotte’s debut album, but for me, it’ll always be track 7 on Soup’s Punk Mix vol. 2.
#songoftheday: Third Eye Blind – Bonfire
Seeing a new Third Eye Blind album in HMV was a bit of a shock in 2009. The fact that I enjoyed it just as much as their older material, left me even more pleasantly surprised.
#songoftheday: Weezer – I’m Your Daddy
As a band, Weezer has had their share of cheesy moments, but this delightfully dorky take on one of their Raditude-era songs is my favourite. Best clarinet solo ever.
#songoftheday: Bon Jovi – Runaway
Gotta love that super-determined 80s keyboard intro.
#songoftheday: WAX – Hush
Here’s one of Spike Jonze’s earliest directorial efforts.
#songoftheday: Kennedy – Karate
If Jamiroquai and Weird Al wrote a song, then had Daft Punk remix it, I’m pretty sure it would come out a lot like this.
#songoftheday: Nazareth – Hair of the Dog
Usually the guitarist is the one in charge of the talk box. When Nazareth plays this live however, the lead guitar player still does their thing, and the lead singer has the plastic tubing in their mouth. To add a bit to the presentation, instead of just some plastic tubing, they’ve fashioned it into a set of bagpipes. Functionally, it’s the exact same, but it makes for a great stage prop.

#songoftheday: The Offspring – Mission From God
As far as I’m concerned, this outtake from Ignition made tracking down a copy of Punk O Rama 10 totally worthwhile.
