Today’s my last full day in Chicago, and I already can’t wait to come back.
Today’s my last full day in Chicago, and I already can’t wait to come back.
I’ve been listening to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes for more than half my life, and today, I’ll finally see them perform live.
I’m guaranteed to lose my mind.
Another punk cover, where it’s the punk song that’s getting covered. In this case what started off as an angry indictment of senseless conflict becomes more of a sad ballad.
So you’re one of the biggest bands on the planet, and a new movement in rock music has people thinking you’re starting to sound passé. What do you do?
Release an album of punk covers, and name it after that time the old drummer tried to sue the band… Sure, why not?
This album just showed up in the mail, and I’ve already listened to it four times from start to finish. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes just keep getting better.
In the world of Punk Rock Covers, no band comes even remotely close to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
They’ve really outdone themselves on this new album. It perfectly combines the high quality song picks of their first album, with the more complicated arrangements from their later releases. When it’s performed by these guys, turning Celine Dion’s well known ballad into an Irish drinking song just makes sense.
Hands down, the best acoustic guitar version of a 90s R&B song that I’ve ever heard.
A really well done acoustic cover never fails to increase my admiration for a song that I already enjoyed. The stripped back nature gives you that luxury of admiring the little things, and lets all the emotion behind the song shine through that much brighter.
