Half the fun of listening to Jet’s debut album was picking up on all the not so subtle homages to other songs. A little Iggy Pop here, a little B.T.O. there, etc…
As far as this track goes, I’d say that it’s more their take on the country genre as a whole than any particular song.
For some people, this songs’s about gambling. But as far as I’m concerned, it’ll always be about pulling off kickflip combos as Wolverine in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.
For all the times that this truly moving song’s been covered, this is my favourite take on it.
I’ve really never heard a Tegan and Sara song that I didn’t like.
The best part about not listening to much music in the early 90s, is that there are so many great 90s songs out there that are brand new to me.
90s pop songs may be criticized for a lot of things, but subtlety won’t ever be one of them.
That said, we had a ton of fun doing a karaoke version of this song in high school.
Sometimes simple and straightforward just works.
