For all the flack that Chinese Democracy got, I still say that it’s the most solid album from any of the GNR guys since Appetite for Destruction.

I absolutely agree. And it has much more lasting appeal than ‘Appetite for Destruction’, I think. It’s actually my favourite Guns N’ Roses album, and I think I would in fact rate it as the best album released under that name. It’s a lonely opinion to have, but it’s an honest one.
For all the comments that it’s an Axl Rose vanity project, a quick look at the songwriting credits show that it’s just as much, if not more of a group/band effort than the old albums. It’ll be interesting to see how many “Most Underrated Albums” lists it shows up on in the coming years.
